  • The Union Government of India has constituted a committee to consider Scheduled Tribe status to six Communities of Assam on 1st March. 
     
  • These six Communities are Moran, Koch Rajbongshi, Tai Ahom, Matak, Chutia and Adivasi (Tea Tribes).
     
  • It will be headed by Mahesh Kumar Singla, Special Secretary Ministry of Home Affairs.

  • Chennai gets India’s first self-cleaning smart toilets. A total of 180 self-cleaning public e-Toilets have been installed in Chennai. These Toilets are free for public use.

  • Ahead of Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi visit to Israel later this year, a first by an Indian Prime Minister, the Cabinet Committee on Security has cleared the purchase of additional surveillance aircraft from the country.

  • The Union Finance Ministry has approved the proposal of four states for the issuance of UDAY (Ujjwal Discom Assurance Yojana) bonds.
     
  • These four states are Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chattisgarh.

  • Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi has launched Setu Bharatam Project on 4th March to make all national highways free of railway crossings by 2019.
     
  • This project will be implemented by Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

  • The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved winding up of the NMCC (National Manufacturing Competitiveness Council) set up in 2004 by the UPA government as a forum for policy dialogue between the industry and the government.

  • Uttar Pradesh Assembly passed the UP Revenue Code Bill - 2016 replacing an ordinance that will allow Dalits to sell their land to non-Dalits in the state.
     
  • The ordinance to amend the pre-British era revenue law was replaced by Utter Pradesh Revenue Code (Amendment) Bill, 2016 which was presented by Revenue Minister Shivpal Singh Yadav.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi has selected Nagepur village in his Varanasi Constituency of Lok Sabha in Uttar Pradesh under the SAGY (Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana).
     
  • Earlier in the first phase of SAGY, Modi had adopted Jayapur village in Sevapuri Assembly segment of Varanasi in 2014.

  • Union Minister for Women and Child Development Maneka Sanjay Gandhi launched Mahila e-Haat portal at 7th March. It will provide access to markets to thousands of women who make products and are spread all over the country.

  • Indian Railways has formed a new Special Purpose Vehicle to implement the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Bullet Train project on 8th March.
     
  • The entity has been named the NHSRC (National High Speed Rail Corporation) Limited.

  • The NITI Aayog has launched the Women Transforming India initiative on the International Women’s Day in partnership with the UN in India.
     
  • As per this campaign the policy would engage directly with women leaders from across urban and rural areas and making every effort to gather successful stories of change heralded by women at the grassroots level within communities.

  • Karnataka CM Sidda Ramaiah launched ‘Santwana Yojana’ under which road accident victims will be given free treatment for the first 48 hrs at any hospital.
     
  • The scheme, 'Mukhyamantri Santwana Harish Yojana', has been named after Harish Nanjappa who donated his eyes moments before his death even as he laid severely injured seeking help after a mishap in February in Bengaluru.

  • The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given its approval for a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) between India and Bahrain on cooperation for prevention of human trafficking especially trafficking in women and children on 11th March; rescue, recovery, repatriation and re-integration of victims of trafficking.

  • Union Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar launched an interactive web portal of Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat in New Delhi at March 11th.
     
  • This portal facilitates that, Ex-Servicemen and dependents to submit online applications under various welfare schemes.

  • Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu has launched the 'clean my coach' service on 11th March. This service allows a passenger to make request for a dirty coach to be swept by sending an SMS on mobile number 58888 or by using an app or a designated website. 

  • Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi inaugurated 3 major railway projects in Bihar at an estimated cost of Rs. 7000 crore.
     
  • Prime Minister dedicated Patna Ganga Bridge of 4.56 km to the nation and inaugurated the freight operation through Munger rail-cum-road Bridge.

  • Central government of India is implementing the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of RUSA (Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan) on 15th March for providing financial support to proposals contained in SHEP (State Higher Education Plan) approved by the State Higher Education Councils (SHECs) in order to achieve the objectives of equity, access and quality.

  • PM Narendra Modi has launched ''Kisan Suvidha'' mobile application on 20th March for farmers. It will provide information on subjects such as weather, seeds, market prices, pesticides, fertilizers and agriculture machinery.

  • Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh has launched a new mobile app ‘Pusa Krishi’ on 21st March. It will help to farmers to take the technology to farm fields.
     
  • This mobile app was launched at the valedictory session of the three-day 'Krishi Unnati Mela'.

  • The Telecom Commission approved the number 112 as the single emergency number for India on 28th March. This is similar to 911 of United States and 999 of United Kingdom.

  • With this, Indian citizens in distress can just dial the single-number 112 for all emergency services such as ambulance, police and the fire department. It will direct the call to concerned departments immediately for help.
